Three New Flows to Help You Reach the Right Donor at the Right Moment

Donor communication is not one-size-fits-all. A donor who just came back after a long absence needs a very different message than someone who has quietly drifted away over the past year. And a donor who lapsed needs something different still. We have been building toward a world where GivFlow can meet each of those people with exactly the right message at exactly the right moment.

Today, we are releasing two new automation flows and an important update to an existing one.

Recovered Donors: Welcome Back, and Let’s Make It Stick

When a previously lapsed donor gives again, that is a moment worth celebrating. It is also a moment worth acting on. Research consistently shows that donors who return after a lapse are often inconsistent givers. They give when they remember to, but they have not built the habit of regular generosity.

The new Recovered Donor Flow reaches out to these donors automatically when they give again after a lapse. The message is warm and grateful. It genuinely thanks them for returning and for their generosity, and it takes the opportunity to invite them to set up a recurring gift, framing it as the easiest way to stay consistent and make their giving count all year long.

The goal is to turn a one-time comeback into a lasting commitment.

Dormant Donors: No Ask, Just a Story

A donor who has not given in 12 or more months is not necessarily gone. Life gets busy. Circumstances change. Sometimes people just need to be reminded of why they connected with your church in the first place.

The new Dormant Donor Flow reaches out to donors who have been silent for 12 or more months with a simple, no-pressure update. There is no ask in this message. Instead, it reminds them of everything your church has accomplished over the past year: the ministry, the community, the impact. The goal is to re-establish the connection and let the story do the work.

This flow is about relationship, not revenue. When a dormant donor feels remembered and valued, generosity often follows on its own.

The Lapsed Donor Flow has been one of GivFlow’s most-used automations since we first launched it. When a donor’s giving drops off, GivFlow reaches out to invite them back. Previously, that invitation always pointed donors back to Church Center to give again.

That worked well for most churches, but we heard from many of you that lapsing is not always a giving problem. Sometimes it is a pastoral one. A donor who stops giving may have experienced a life change, a loss, or a disconnection from the community that needs to be addressed before a giving invitation is appropriate.

With the re-release of the Lapsed Donor Flow, you can now set a custom action link in the outreach message. You can point donors back to Church Center as before, or you can direct them to a pastoral care form, a connection card, a small group signup, or anywhere else that makes sense for your church’s approach to re-engagement.

The right next step for a lapsed donor is yours to define.

All three flows are available in your GivFlow account now. Log in to review your automation settings and turn on the ones that fit your ministry’s approach to donor care.
